CANWNT to Face Iceland and Korea Republic in Spain

Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team concludes 2024 campaign with international friendlies in Spain

Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team (CANWNT) will travel to Murcia, Spain, for a pair of international friendlies during the November FIFA international window. The team will face 13th-ranked Iceland on Friday, 29 November, followed by 19th-ranked Korea Republic on Tuesday, 3 December. Both matches will be played at the Pinatar Arena in Murcia, Spain.

“Our upcoming matches against Iceland and Korea Republic in this FIFA international window are crucial for the continued growth of our Women’s National Team. These games provide an invaluable opportunity to test ourselves, build further cohesion, and lay the groundwork for ongoing success on the world stage as we enter a new cycle of international competition.”

 - Daniel Michelucci, Director of National Team Operations

Canada’s Women’s National Team has faced Iceland two times since 2016, securing one win and one draw. Their most recent matchup took place at the Algarve Cup in February 2019 and ended in a 0-0 draw. Before that, Canada achieved a 1-0 victory over Iceland in March 2016.

Canada has had a strong historical record against Korea Republic, holding a 7-1-1 (win-draw-loss) series record since their first meeting in 2000. Their latest encounter was a scoreless draw in Toronto in June 2022, where Canada controlled the game but couldn’t break through Korea Republic’s defensive setup. Prior to that, the teams faced off in the 2018 Algarve Cup final, where Canada clinched a 3-0 victory.

The Friday, 29 November match against Iceland will kick off at 19:00 (local time) (13:00 ET / 10:00 PT), and the Tuesday, 3 December match against Korea Republic will kick off at 18:00 (local time) (12:00 ET / 9:00 PT).

This camp marks the final gathering of 2024 for Canada’s players, as North American-based athletes enter their off-season, while European-based players return to club competition in the 2024/25 season.

Team roster and interim coaching staff announcement will be made in the coming days.

Broadcast information and details will be announced at a later date.
