Canada announces squad for canw17 matches against Portugal

Canada Soccer have announced their squad for the upcoming Women’s Under-17 camp in Portugal. Canada’s 21-player squad, coached by Emma Humphries, will come together for a training camp in Troia, Portugal, from 14-19 November, and then travel to Lisbon to play Portugal on 21 and 23 November. Both matches will take place at Cidade do Futebol, the National Training Centre for the Portuguese Football Association.

This will be the first time Canada Soccer’s Women’s Under-17 team come together since qualifying for the 2024 Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Championship this past August, when Canada finished first in the three-nation round robin Group F series by winning 21:0 against Dominica and 9:0 against Bermuda. The 2024 Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Championship will act as a qualifying competition for the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, and will see Canada face Puerto Rico on 2 February, Panama on 4 February, and the United States on 6 February in Toluca, Mexico.
This 21-player roster will see 17 returning players from the U17 Concacaf W Preliminary Round earlier this year, with the addition of four new faces in goalkeeper Sierra Gallant, defenders Bridget Mutipula and Katherine Ozard, and midfielder Emily Wong.
This camp will provide some of Canada’s exceptional young players an opportunity to be together for 10 days and work towards the Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Championship, the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, and ultimately Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team.

CANADA SOCCER’S WOMEN’S NATIONAL TEAM
Canada are Olympic champions (Tokyo 2020), two-time bronze medal winners (2012 and 2016), and two-time Concacaf champions (1998 and 2010). In all, Canada have participated in seven consecutive editions of the FIFA Women’s World Cup™ (1995 to 2019) and four consecutive editions of the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament (2008 to 2021). At Tokyo 2020, Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team became the first Canadian team to win three consecutive medals at the Summer Olympic Games and just the third nation in the world to win three medals in women’s soccer.
Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Youth Teams, meanwhile, have won four Concacaf youth titles: the 2004 and 2008 Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship, the 2010 Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Championship, and the 2014 Concacaf Girls’ Under-15 Championship. Canada have qualified for eight editions of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup (including a silver medal at Canada 2002) and all seven editions of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup (including a fourth-place finish at Uruguay 2018).
